About
Educated with an AFA from Young Harris College, Georgia, and a BFA from the University of Georgia, Athens, Candone began her teaching career in Malmo, Sweden, at Lunds Universitet, where she honed her skills through a Ceramics Assistantship. Her journey then led her to Ustupo, on the San Blas Islands of Panama, where she taught the Cuna Indians primitive ceramic techniques, embodying the union of past, present, and future in her work.
From Sweden, her travels took her back to Spain in the late 1970s. On the picturesque island of Ibiza, Candone opened her first studio. Limited resources and primitive kiln technology were not constraints but rather the impetus for creativity. Her hands and the simplest of tools were her primary instruments, inspiring a profound connection with her materials that endures in her work to this day.
Her works, characterized by their vibrant raku finishes, intricate textures, and elegant forms, synthesize a myriad of global influences. American education, Japanese firing techniques, Moroccan glaze influences, and forms inspired by ancient architecture all converge in her art, creating a unique tapestry that is distinctly Candone's. Over the past four years, her artistic expression has evolved, taking her into the exploration of stoneware vessels and, most recently, cast glass.
After over four decades of focusing on raku, Candone began to explore textured coils and unglazed surfaces in 2017. This exploration of raw clay bodies and firing techniques allowed her to reveal textures imbued with organic touch and raw beauty. Yet, she longed for the brilliance of her glazes and found the perfect solution in cast glass. Inspired by a friend and following a short workshop, she knew this medium could augment the beauty of her textures and forms without distracting from their essence.
Having fallen in love with glass over 15 years ago, Candone is now making the slow transition to cast glass, imbuing her art with a newfound brilliance of color and light. In addition to her artistic endeavors, she is the proud owner and founder of Candone LLC and Clay Art Travel, continuing to contribute to the world of ceramics and glass.
Today, Candone resides in Florida, USA, continuing her work as a potter, as well as venturing into the world of glass.
